#52CafeCards Challenge – Card 2 – Bubbles

The #52CafeCards Challenge by Marta of Maremi Small Art (Facebook group page is where most of the action happens) continues!

We are technically on week 3, but I have been playing catch up as I had a late start. I’m squeezing this one in and am hoping to do the third this weekend before the 4th theme is released.

So far the weekly themes have been “art” and and now “bubbles.” I enjoy how simple these themes are. There are no rules, aside from the size requirements.

I had made a stencil with my silhouette portrait digital die cutting machine as soon as I got it for Christmas and I’m so glad I did. I also had a cheap pack of acetate to use for just these purposes and it was rather difficult to figure out the cut settings, but absolutely worth it. I can tell I’m going to get a lot of use out of this three-size circle stencil and I’m anxious to cut more.

I used a bunch of techniques on this card and none of it was planned. I knew I wanted to use the paper I had kept to recycle and that was about it. Along the way I thought embossing with gold and lace stamps might be fun, especially to see the bubbles coming up as if from begin the gold design. So I played with that.

The title “let them pop” came from my brain as a way of saying “let things be.” None of the bubbles themselves are illustrated as popping – but all bubbles some day will pop. That inevitability is almost reassuring. Just as this process of miniature card-making has become.

Stay tuned for the next installment as well as more updates to the shop, coming soon!
